The impact of Medido

In all our activities, the end users of the Medido Medicine Clock are central. With the same vision and ideals as when we started the Medido service 16 years ago; giving back a piece of independence to our clients by making medication management simpler, more accessible, and safer. How do they experience this themselves? We let a few satisfied clients speak!

More independence

Thanks to the Medicine Clock conditions such as depression, Parkinson's, rheumatism, or dementia can sometimes make it difficult to manage medication independently. Approximately 11 million people in the Netherlands regularly use medication. More than 8 percent of this group currently uses five or more different medications, and half of them regularly make mistakes in using their medication. The Medido Medicine Clock can alleviate some of these concerns for clients by dispensing medication at the right times, thereby also increasing adherence to therapy. One of the oldest users of our Medicine Clock and a client at Kwadrant Friesland is Mrs. Pultrum (104 years old at the time of writing). Despite her respectable age, Mrs. Pultrum is still partially independent and not entirely reliant on care, thanks to her Medido. She states: "I think it's a good thing. You press the button, and they come out. Yes, that's quite convenient! I can't do much anymore, but I can still do that."
We visited her with a bouquet of flowers, and you can watch the video below:

Don't forget any medication moments with Medido

The Medido medication dispenser helps clients with forgetfulness or early-stage dementia (mild cognitive impairment and early phase) manage their medication effectively. Clients who feel they lack control over their lives may become irritable, anxious, or resistant, so maintaining a sense of self-worth and autonomy can be crucial for their happiness. By reducing their dependency on healthcare workers for timely medication intake, Medido is often a suitable solution.

Mrs. Bruinewoud (70) from Emmeloord, a client of Zorggroep Oude en Nieuwe Land, has become somewhat forgetful, partly due to a cardiac arrest. It's important for her to take her medication at the right time, and the Medido medication clock assists her with this.

Mrs. Bruinewoud shares her experience: "It mainly gives me peace of mind. I know I don't have to worry about forgetting something. This device helps me take my medication on time. Four times a day, a signal goes off, and a packet with tablets is ready for me. There's already a small tear in the packet, so I can open it easily. I'm very happy with it. In fact, it works excellently!"

At Silverein, they also use Medido for people with cognitive issues like early-stage dementia and forgetfulness. Mrs. Raats, a satisfied client, says: "Sometimes a home care worker comes by to refill the medication, but most of the time, I do it myself. It also gives a sense of security. Everything is arranged: I never forget my pills and take them on time. I like that it makes me independent; no one needs to come by. My husband uses it too. This allows us to stay at home longer, which is ultimately the goal!"

Peace for clients and caregivers

More and more elderly people are living independently at home for longer periods, sometimes by choice, but often due to a lack of alternatives. Although these seniors can often function without home care, medication management can be a stumbling block. This is also true for caregivers, often family members, who frequently need to assist and monitor. This can be quite complicated, especially with the use of multiple medications and medication times. In the municipality of West Betuwe, various care institutions joined forces and decided to implement the Medido. Mrs. Gerritsen is one of the clients using the Medido and is enthusiastic: "Yes, it makes it much easier. I no longer forget to take my medication because the Medido reminds me. I now always take them on time, for example, at 8 o'clock in the morning. I used to forget sometimes, but now it happens automatically."

Her daughter, who is also her caregiver, also notices a difference: "It gives me peace of mind to know that her medications are ready and that she receives a reminder on time. Previously, I had to check that myself, but now I know it's going well." For her, the Medido means time savings and less worry, while she can still fulfill her role as a caregiver. She continues: "These kinds of small changes make a 'pleasant' difference as a caregiver."
