How Medido works

From request to delivery

Step 1

GP diagnoses and prescribes prescription

When a client needs medication, they visit their doctor. The doctor provides a prescription that can be picked up at the pharmacy. If the doctor or specialist suspects that the patient might not use the medication correctly, the doctor orders a medication blister pack through the pharmacy.

Step 2

Client needs help with medication administration

If a nurse or caregiver notices that a client requires assistance with medication administration, a medication support indication is established. From that moment on, the client receives help with handing out and taking medication from a nurse or caregiver.

Step 3

Healthcare professional requests Medido service via the online registration form or ECR

If a client has an indication for medication assistance and Medido’s service is suitable, the healthcare professional requests a Medido medication dispenser through Medido’s registration form or via the Electronic Health Record (EHR). The caregiver can request the AIS number from the pharmacy. It is important that the caregiver provides both the AIS number and the correct medication schedule*.

Step 4

Medido Customer Service processes request

Upon receiving the AIS number and medication schedule*, our Customer Service team forwards the request for a Medido medication dispenser to the Logistics department. The dispenser is then shipped from Logistics. The Medido medication dispenser is delivered 5 days before the start date of the new (Medido-compatible) medicine roll.

Step 5

Pharmacy delivers medication to pharmaceutical repackager

The pharmacy provides the medication along with the prescription to the pharmaceutical repackager and ensures that the correct medicine roll, compatible with the Medido dispenser, is ordered from the pharmaceutical repackager.

Step 6

Pharmaceutical repackager packs medication into medication roll and sends to pharmacy

Once the pharmaceutical repackager receives the medication details, they prepare the medicine roll for the client. If the current medicine roll is still in use, the new Medido-compatible roll will only be produced once the current one has finished. Empty sachets are placed between the packs to ensure the correct medication in the right quantities is delivered to the pharmacy. These empty sachets remain attached to the roll upon delivery.

Step 7

Client receives the Medido medication dispenser

The client receives the Medido medication dispenser at home or another agreed-upon location. The client may leave the dispenser in the box until the caregiver arrives. Together with the caregiver, the client can choose a suitable place for the dispenser in their home.

Step 8

Pharmacy delivers the medicine roll to the client

The pharmacy provides the client with information about the medication and ensures all administrative details are in order. The Medido service can begin once a medication schedule is available and the medicine roll has been delivered to the client. At this point, it is up to the healthcare provider or the pharmacy to activate the Medido medication dispenser.

Care or pharmacy activates and loads the medicine roll

It is now the responsibility of the pharmacy or healthcare provider to activate the Medido medication dispenser. Together with Customer Service, all necessary steps are followed to ensure the client is ready to begin. After activation, the dispenser can be loaded with the correct medicine roll.

Step 10

Client starts using Medido service

During the first week, the caregiver supports the client with the initial medication dispensing moments from the Medido dispenser. After that, the client can take their medication independently, marking a successful start to the Medido service.

24/7 monitoring

Notifications from the Medido medication dispenser are monitored around the clock, often in collaboration with a care coordination center. If a client does not take their medication within the designated time, this is always followed up and communicated to the healthcare provider.
